Sesame Chicken

Racecourse club in Delhi takes you back to yester year’s setting. Located in South Delhi, lush green Golf course on one side and Polo field on the other. A favored place for reunions and get togethers, this place has wonderful memories. One of their signature dish Sesame Chicken, has managed to stay constant on the Menu over the years, soft chicken with a crispy cover and hint of sesame flavor. A fairly easy to follow recipe and an appetizer enjoyed by kids and adults alike!

Serves – 4 Time – 30 minutes

Ingredients

  1. Boneless chicken(stripes) – 400 gm
  2. Sesame Seeds – 2 tbsp
  3. Sweet Chilly sauce – 2 tbsp
  4. Soy sauce – 1 tbsp
  5. Plain flour/Maida – 2 tbsp
  6. Egg – 1
  7. Ginger chopped – 1 tsp
  8. Honey – 2 tbsp
  9. Vinegar – ½ tsp
  10. Cornflour – 2 tsp
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Refined/flavourless Oil for deep frying

Method

  1. Lightly dry roast sesame seeds and set aside
  2. Marinate chicken in sweet chilly sauce, flour, egg & salt for 20 minutes
  3. Heat oil in a Wok and fry the marinated chicken
  4. Add grated ginger to the above & continue to fry till half cooked
  5. Next add, soy sauce, honey, vinegar and fry for 3-4 minutes or till chicken is cooked completely
  6. Make a slurry of corn flour by adding 2 tsp of water. Add slurry to wok and mix well
  7. Switch off flame and add half sesame seeds and mix well
  8. Shift to serving dish and sprinkle the remaining seeds
  9. Serve hot

Notes

  1. To make the spicy version of this, omit honey and add 2 fiery red chilies along with ginger
  2. For the vegetarian version, replace chicken with thick cottage cheese/Paneer slices
